This widely famous drink that reminds of shortbread and butterscotch mixed together is available only at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and one has to visit the Universal Orlando Resort to taste the unique butter beer.

The butter beer was first served on June 18, 2010. Since then it had been capturing millions of hearts making people wanting to know the actual Harry Potter butter beer recipe. But the butter beer recipe universal has been closely guarded and there are even special security procedures to protect the recipe details.

But that has not stopped people from searching or even better inventing their own butterbeer recipes. Everyone is trying their hands to get the butter beer recipe right.   1. Alcoholic Butter Beer Recipe for Adults

A delicious beverage for the adults, apt for weekend romantic drink!

Preparation Time: 15 minutes

Total Time: 1 ½ hours

Servings: 8 mugs


  • 2 cup light or dark brown sugar
  • 4 tablespoons water
  • 12 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cider vinegar
  • 1 ½ cup heavy cream, divided
  • 1 teaspoon rum extract
  • 8 12-ounce bottles cream soda


Brown Sugar Mixture Preparation

  • Heat a small saucepan over medium flame.
  • Combine the brown sugar and water in to the saucepan.
  • Allow the content to boil.
  • Stir the mixture often and cook until the mixture reads 240 F on a candy thermometer (also known as sugar thermometer). Or cook until the mixture turns soft as a ball.
  • Stir in the butter, salt, vinegar and 1/2 heavy cream.
  • Set aside to cool to room temperature.
  • Once the mixture has cooled, stir in the rum extract.
  • Your brown sugar mixture is now ready.

Whipped Topping Preparation

  • Take a medium-sized bowl and combine 4 tablespoons of the brown sugar mixture and the remaining 1 cup of heavy cream.
  • Use an electric mixer to beat until just thickened, about 2 to 3 minutes. But make sure it’s not completely whipped.
  • Your whipped topping is now ready.

Serving Preparation

  • Divide the brown sugar mixture between 8 tall glasses (about 1/2 cup for each glass).
  • Add 1/2 cup of cream soda to each glass, then stir to combine.
  • Fill each glass nearly to the top with additional cream soda.
  • Then scoop out a spoonful of the whipped topping and put it over each glass.
  • Your butter beer is now ready to be served!
  1. Frozen Butter Beer Recipe for Adults

A butter beer recipe to enjoy with your loved ones!

Preparation Time: 15 minutes

Total Time: preparation time + freezing time

Servings: 4 mugs


  • 1 cup brown sugar mixture (used in the first recipe)
  • 1 cup cream soda
  • 8 cups cream soda ice cubes (approximately 4 ice cube trays)
  • 4 spoons whipped topping (used in the first recipe)


  • Fill up four ice cube trays with cream soda and leave it in the freezer overnight
  • Mix 1 cup brown sugar mixture and 1 cup cream soda in a large bowl.
  • Stir to combine.
  • Pour the mixture in the blender along with the frozen cream soda ice cubes.
  • Run the blender for 2 to 3 minutes and pour out the mixture back in to the large bowl.
  • Add more cream soda if the mixture is too thick
  • Now fill 4 mugs with the frozen butter beer and add whipped topping.
  • Enjoy the home made frozen butter beer!

3.  Frozen Butter Beer Recipe for Kids

Preparation Time: 15 minutes

Total Time: preparation time + freezing time

Servings: 4 mugs


  • 4 liters of cream soda
  • 1 container of whipping cream
  • 1 jar of butterscotch ice cream topping


  • Freeze one of the 2 liters of cream soda over night.
  • Whip the cream in a bowl and add a few tablespoons of the butterscotch ice cream topping as you whip.
  • Do not over whip the cream. Keep the content light and frothy.
  • Then blend the frozen cream soda with a few spoons of cream soda added to it for an icy texture.
  • Add more of the butterscotch topping into the cream soda while you blend.
  • To serve, pour the blended mixture into the cups and top with the butterscotch flavored whip cream.
  • Tada! Frozen Kiddy Butter Beer is now ready!
